This course introduces the major traditions of classical social thought and theory through the works of key thinkers such as Smith, Marx, Weber, and Durkheim. It explores how each theorist develops a distinct way of explaining social order, inequality, and change, and how their ideas continue to shape sociological thinking today. Emphasis is placed on understanding theoretical arguments, comparing different perspectives, and applying abstract concepts to real social issues. Through close reading and analysis, students will develop the skills to interpret complex texts, construct clear arguments, and engage critically with foundational ideas in sociology.
